VOLUNTEER WITH OUR MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS
WHAT IS THE MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS?
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of volunteers who help make their communities stronger and healthier during disasters and every day.
The Columbia County MRC is organized and sponsored by the Columbia County Department of Health.
An MRC unit can be activated at any time to assist with a number of responses, including:
Emergency Preparedness and Response Exercises
Mass facility surge support
Disease testing and surveillance
Veterinary care
Emergency Operations Center support
Community Education
Disaster Clean up
Emergency Shelter operations and medical care
Mass Dispensing (e.g., medications, water or other supplies)
Community Vaccination Clinics
Support services to disaster call centers, family assistance centers and reception centers
And many more…
MRC volunteers receive training in necessary tasks to prepare them for activations.
WHAT IS EXPECTED AND REQUIRED?
The Columbia County MRC’s goal is to make the volunteer experience exciting and rewarding to everyone. With that in mind, we are providing an overview of the requirements below.
Required Trainings:
FEMA IS-100 and IS-700
Psychological First Aid
Personal Preparedness
In addition to the above trainings, all MRC volunteers will also need to complete annual sexual harassment and workplace violence training offered by Columbia County. To ensure that members stay current, all members will be required to attend a minimum of one MRC event or training per year. Exceptions can be made for students or military members. Training will be provided to volunteers either in person, or through the free MRC Train platform.
